A fond farewell to Jenny; My beloved Peugeot 106
Jenny carried King's Lynn resident David Blackmore for more than seven years after he purchased her from a car dealer in Coulsdon, near Croydon, on a cold December afternoon for £2,500.
Despite suffering from a broken electric window, wing mirror and a leaky sunroof for many years, Jenny continue to soldier on for her handsome owner and clocked up more than 117,500 miles.
But with her owner set to scrap her before she faced MoT judges in January, Jenny decided to call it quits following a car boot sale in leafy Surrey earlier this month.
David, 25, said: "I can remember the first time I saw Jenny sitting at a car dealers in Coulsdon looking all shiny on a cold and frosty morning. Having had a pretty bad experience with an old Ford Fiesta, I needed a car to remain by my side for a number of yeras and plucky Jenny proved to be that automobile.
"There weren't many places we didn't go together. She stayed with me during my 4-month journalism course in Newcastle and stuck by me when I moved from Surrey to Norfolk in 2010."
He added: "She served me really well over the years, impressed lots of female passengers and will be sorely missed."
A blown head gasket and rotten water pipes were the cause of death and on Tuesday, David waved goodbye to his beloved car as she was taken away to be destroyed.
Other tributes for the Peugeot 106 have been left on social network website Facebook.
On hearing of her untimely death, Epsom resident Katherine Jacques wrote: "No way! Thought she'd live forever."
Meanwhile, Donna Semmens wrote: "The office car park will never be the same - no cars with Gaffer tape holding the sunroof together!"An anonymous person halso contacted David with this apt poem by Sylvia Chidi:
A car is a car
If it can ride you nearby or far
A car is a car
When it gets you in time to the bar
But for some
A car is not just a car
It is a home
After a daylight roam
It is a home
After a nightly roam
But you see, to me
A car is just a car
Be it in a new silver shining coat
Or one decorated with tarnished scars
The simple reality
Is they all have similar
Passenger capacity
Whether be it a personalised 8 seater stretch limousine
Or a Ferrari with an exploding roaring engine
A car is a car
A vehicle of motion
A medium of transportation
Even when it shows signs of erosion
As long as it can move from junction to junction
I personally sanction
A car is just a car
